Koottu Curry

Ingredients (Serves 6)
1. Raw banana – 1 large or 2 small, peeled and cubed

Chena / elephant yam / suran(fresh or frozen) – 1.5 cup, cubed

Green chilies – 2 – 3, slit

Curry leaves – 1 – 2 sprigs

Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp

Chilli powder – 1/2 tsp

Water – 1.5 – 2 cups or as required

Salt -To taste

2. Cooked black chana / chickpeas/ kadala – 1 cup (Soak dried kadala/black chana for 8 hours and pressure cook adding enough water for around 5 whistles or until soft and cooked completely)

3. Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp

Whole black pepper corns – 1/2 tsp

4. Garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp

Jaggery / brown sugar – 1/2 tsp

5. Grated coconut – 1.5 – 2 cups

6. Coconut oil – 1 tbsp

Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp

Dry red chilies – 1 – 2, broken

Curry leaves – 1 sprig

7. Salt – To taste
