Sprouted Green gram Sundal Recipe
Ingredients (Serves 3)
1. Green gram sprouts / cheru payar mulappichathu – 1.5 cup
2. Oil – 2 tsp
3. Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Dried red chilies- 2, broken
Urad dal – 1/2 tsp
Hing / asafoetida – 1 pinch
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Green chilly – 1, finely chopped
4. Salt – To taste
5. Grated coconut – 2 – 3 tbsp
Method
Heat oil in a at medium-high heat. Splutter mustard seeds and fry dried red chilies, urad dal, hing and curry leaves. Add green gram sprouts, salt to taste and 2 tbsp water. Mix well. Cover and cook for 2 – 3 minutes. Finally add grated coconut. Cook for a minute or two until moisture evaporates completely. Mix well and switch off. You can have it as a snack or as a side-dish for rice.
To sprout green gram / cherupayar – Soak 1 cup green gram in enough water for at least 8 – 10 hours. After 8 – 10 hours, drain all the water. Cover with a lid and place it in a warm place for about 8 hrs or until it sprouts well. Use immediately or store in the fridge for a couple of days.
