Homemade Hot Chocolate

Ingredients (Serves 3)

Whole milk – 3 cups

Unsweetened cocoa powder – 1.5 tbsp

Sugar – 2 -2.5 tbsp, depending on how sweet you like it

Baking semi – sweet/dark chocolate bar (of good quality) – 4 oz (113 gm), finely chopped

Salt – 1 pinch

Heavy cream – 1/4 cup

Vanilla extract – 1/2 tsp

Method

In a medium saucepan, combine the cocoa powder and about 1/4 cup whole milk. Cook over medium-low heat stirring constantly until well-combined. Add in the remaining milk and heat over medium, stirring constantly until hot (do not boil). Add in the finely chopped chocolate, pinch of salt and stir gently until chocolate is completely melted. Add heavy cream and vanilla extract. Mix well. Transfer the hot chocolate to a mug. Top with mini marshmallows or sweetened whipped cream and serve immediately. This recipe serves 3.

Note

If you find it difficult to finely chop the chocolate bar, cut into chunks and melt it in microwave (takes about 30 seconds-1 minute, make sure you stir every 15 seconds) and add to hot milk.
