Ingredients (Serves 3 – 4)
1. Broccoli florets – 2 cups, cut into small florets
2. Oil – 1tbsp
3. Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 pinch
Dry red chilies – 1 – 2, broken
Urad dal – 1/2 tsp
4. Onion – 1/2 cup, chopped
Green chilies – 2, slit
5. Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
6. Grated coconut – 3 – 4 tbsp
7. Salt – To taste
Method
Heat oil in a pan at medium heat. Splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds and fry dry red chilies. Next add urad dal and fry until golden and then add chopped onion and green chilies. Stir until onion starts to change color. Add turmeric powder and cook for a minute. Next add broccoli florets, enough salt and mix well. Cover and cook for 4- 5 minutes. Open the lid and stir-fry for 1 minute. Finally sprinkle the grated coconut, mix well and switch off. We had this yummy broccoli poriyal with Kerala red rice, aviyal, prawn roast, mango pickle and tomato pulliseri.
