Thakkali Moru Curry / Tomato Moru Curry
Ingredients (Serves 6 – 8)
1. Yoghurt – 2 – 2.5 cups, beaten
2. Coconut oil – 1 tbsp
3. Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Dried red chilly – 1 – 2, broken
Fenugreek seeds – 1 pinch
4. Onion – 1/2 cup, thinly sliced or finely chopped
5. Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
6. Tomato – 2 medium, sliced or chopped
Green chilies – 2 – 3, slit
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
7. Salt – To taste
Method
Heat oil in a cheena chatti / deep pan at medium heat. Splutter mustard seeds and fry dry red chilly and fenugreek seeds. When fenugreek seeds turn reddish, add sliced onions and saute for about 3 minutes until they slightly change color. Next add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder and mix well. Add sliced tomatoes, green chilies, curry leaves and cook for 4 – 5 minutes until tomato is cooked and starts turning mushy. Bring down the heat. Add in the beaten yoghurt, enough salt and stir continuously until it is heated through, about 1 – 2 minutes (do not boil). Its simple and delicious! Serve with rice and any side-dish.
