Chicken Burgers

Chicken Burgers

Ingredients (Makes 5 burgers)

1. Ground chicken – 450 gm

Mayonnaise / beaten egg – 1 tbsp

Onion – 2 tbsp, minced

Garlic – 3/4 tsp, minced

Cilantro – 3 tbsp, minced

Chilly powder / paprika – 3/4 tsp

Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp

Coriander powder – 1/4 tsp (optional)

Pepper powder – 1/4 tsp

Salt – To taste

2. Oil – 2 – 3 tbsp or as required

3. Hamburger buns – 5

Butter – 2 tbsp  for toasting buns

Cheese slices – 5 or shreded cheese – 3 – 4 tbsp

Ketchup / mayonnaise – 2 – 3 tbsp or as required

Onion rings

Sliced tomato

Ketchup / mayonnaise / chilly sauce – 2 – 3 tbsp or as required

Method

1. Combine the ground chicken with all the ingredients numbered 2. Mix well using a spoon. Divide into 5 lemon sized balls (depending on the size of your buns, keep in mind that they will shrink a lot while cooking) and form patties (grease your hands with a little oil and press the ball on your palm with the other hand and shape the edges.) Form the patties wider than you’d like them to be and make a small dimple/indentation in the center using your thumb to prevent bulging in the center as it cooks.

2. Heat 1 – 1.5 tbsp oil in a griddle/ cast iron pan / indoor grill pan over medium heat. Cook the chicken patties for 4 – 5 minutes / side until completely done. During the last minute of cooking, place a cheese slice (or shredded cheese) on top of the chicken patties and allow to melt.

3. Meanwhile butter and toast the burger  buns and remove to a plate. Spread a little mayonnaise on one side of each bun. Top with lettuce, chicken patty, ketchup, onion rings and sliced tomato. Serve immediately.
