Sun-dried beef crushed/shredded and stirfried in coconut oil along with chilly flakes, ginger, garlic, meat masala powder and curry leaves until dry and crisp.
This is an easier version of the traditional recipe, came across this in Vanitha magazine.
Ingredients
1. Beef – 350 – 400 gm, cubed
Cook beef pieces adding 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1/4 tsp pepper powder, 1/2 tsp chilly powder, 2 – 3 tbsp water and salt for 3 – 4 whistles or until done. Drain excess water. Set aside to cool. Shred into small pieces using your fingers.
2. Coconut oil – 1 – 1.5 tbsp
3. Ginger – 2 tsp, crushed or finely chopped
Garlic – 2 tsp, crushed or finely chopped
Curry leaves – 1 sprig, chopped or torn
Meat masala powder / garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp
4. Crushed red chilies -1 – 1.5 tsp or as required to taste
Fennel powder/ garam masala powder – 1/4 tsp
5. Salt – To taste
Method
Heat coconut oil in a kadai/non stick pan over medium-high heat. Add shredded beef, ginger, garlic, curry leaves, meat masala powder, little salt and stir continuously until beef is browned. Add crushed chilly flakes and continue to stir-fry for a few more minutes until beef turns crisp. Add fennel powder and mix well. Cook for a minute and switch off. Goes well with kanji / kappa/rice.
