Pavakka Vattal Kichadi

Do you guys have pavakka vattal at home? I will share an easy peasy kichadi recipe using pavakka vattal. This is a very easy and quick fix for rice. Just crush the deep fried pavakka vattal along with mulaku vattal and mix with yoghurt. Thats it! Hope you will give this a try sometime..

 

Ingredients

Pavakka vattal – 50 gm or 1/2 – 3/4 cup

Mulaku vattal – 2 or to taste

Yoghurt – 1/2 cup or as required

Salt – To taste

Coconut oil – 1.5 tsp

Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp

Dry red chilly – 1

Curry leaves – 1 sprig

Oil – To deep-fry

Method

1. Deep fry the pavakka vattal and mulaku vattal. Drain on to a paper towel and set aside to cool. Crush them in a mixer. Transfer the ground mixture to a bowl. Stir in the yoghurt. Mix well and check for salt.

2. In a small pan, heat oil. Splutter mustards and fry dry red chillies and curry leaves. Pour over the kichadi. Serve with rice.

To make pavakka vattal, slice the pavakka into medium-sized rounds. Mix with salt. Spread them on a newspaper sheet or plastic sheet and dry in the sun.
