Chakka Thoran (Serves 6 – 7)
Ingredients (Serves
1. Unripe jackfruit (chakka chula, fresh / frozen) – 400gm, chopped
2. Coconut oil – 2 – 3 tsp
3. Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Dried red chilies – 1 – 2, broken
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
4. Grated coconut – 1 cup
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Chilly powder – 1 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp, crushed
5. Salt – To taste
Method
1. Combine grated coconut with the other ingredients numbered 4.
2. Heat coconut oil in a cheena chatti at medium heat. Splutter mustard seeds and fry dried red chilies. Next add urad dal and fry until golden. Add grated coconut mixture and stir for a few seconds. Add chopped jackfruit, salt to taste and mix well. Sprinkle a tbsp of water. Bring everything to the center and cook covered for 8 – 10 minutes until done. Switch off. Serve with rice and other side-dishes.
