Seasoned Dal

 

Simple dal

 

 

Ingredients

1. Toor dal / thuvara parippu – 1/2 cup

    Onion – 1/2 small, chopped

   Green chilies – 3, slit

   Curry leaves – A few

   Salt – To taste

   Water – Around 1.5 cup or as required

   Oil – 1/2 tsp

2. Oil / ghee – 2 tsp

    Mustard seeds – 1/4 – 1/2 tsp

    Dry red chilies – 2, broken

    Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp

    Curry leaves – A few

    Pearl onions – 4, sliced into thin rounds

Method

1. Cook the ingredients numbered 1 in a pressure cooker for 1 whistle. Open the cooker when pressure releases.

2. Heat oil a small pan at medium heat. Splutter mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Then fry dry red chilies and curry leaves. Finally add pearl onions and saute until golden brown. Pour over the prepared dal. Close with a lid for 5 minutes. This goes well with chapatis.

Tip

You can also add 1/4 cup chopped tomato while pressure-cooking toor dal and other ingredients numbered 1.
