Homemade Marinara Sauce

Marinara sauce

Ingredients

1. Olive oil – 2 tbsp

2. Onion – 1/3 cup, chopped

    Garlic – 2 cloves, minced

    Crushed red chilly flakes – 1/2 tsp

3. Crushed tomatoes – 28 ounce can

    Sugar – 1.5 tsp

    Italian seasoning – 1/4 tsp

    Salt and pepper – To taste

4. Fresh basil leaves – 5, chopped

    Fresh parsley – 1.5 tbsp

Method

Heat olive oil at medium heat in a heavy-bottomed pan. Add onion, garlic, crushed chilly flakes, little salt and stir until onion turns translucent. Add crushed tomatoes, sugar, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Mix well. Simmer for about 20 – 25 minutes until thickened stirring in between. Add basil leaves and parsley. Mix well. Switch off.  It will keep well for 1 week in the refrigerator. You can use it as a dip for breadsticks or mozzarella sticks, sauce for pizza and pasta and a base for soups (recipes coming soon).
