Thakkali Perakku Recipe

Ingredients (Serves 6 – 8)

1. Tomato / thakkali – 2 large, finely chopped

    Red onion – 1/4 cup, finely chopped

    Water – 1/4 cup

    Salt – To taste

2. Grated coconut – 3/4 – 1 cup

    Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp

    Green chilies – 2

    Yoghurt – ½ cup

To season

4. Coconut oil – 2 tsp

    Mustard seeds – ½ tsp

    Dried red chilies – 1 – 2, broken

    Curry leaves – A few


1. Cook chopped tomato along with red onion, salt and ¼ – ½ cup water in a vessel for 3 – 4 minutes. Do not overcook, the onions should retain their crunch.

2. Meanwhile grind ingredients numbered 2 to a fine paste. Add it to the cooked tomato mixture. Cook for 1 – 2 minutes until it is about to boil. Switch off.

3. Heat coconut oil in a small pan. Splutter mustard seeds and fry dry red chilies and curry leaves. Pour over the prepared thakkali perakku. Serve warm. We had the yummy perakku with rice, fish fry, cherupayar thoran, aviyal, vendakka mezhukkupuratti, kaduku manga achar and moru curry Smile
