Malabar Coconut Rice / Thenga Choru – With Video

Malabar coconut rice

Ingredients

Jeerakashala rice / kaima rice – 1 cup, rinsed well

Grated coconut – 3/4 cup

Fenugreek seeds / uluva – 3/4 tsp

Pearl onions – 5, roughly chopped

Green chilies – 2, chopped

Curry leaves – A few, torn

Turmeric powder – 1 pinch (optional)

Salt – To taste

Coconut oil – 1 tsp

Water – 2 cups

Method

Add all the above ingredients in a pressure cooker. Pressure cook for 1 whistle. Set aside for 10 – 15 minutes or until pressure releases. Open and serve hot with any spicy curry of your choice.
